Czechow
Czechów is a village 5 km. east of Gorzów Wlkp (Landsberg Warthe). According to Polish legend the name Czechow stems from the tenth century when the Polish prince Mieszko I brought Czech soldiers here. Czechow has an interesting XVIII - century church, part of a once extensive German-era cemetery, and the ruins of Dutch-style windmill. The centre of the village, like many in the area, remains much as it did when the German population was expelled from this part of Europe at the end of the second world war; and owing to the proximity of the River Warta the area is home to a large number of white storks during the summer monthsPolish name: Czechow German name: Zechow Province : Lubuskie Nearest City: Gorzów Wlkp Nearby Villages and Towns: Gralewo, Lipki, Santok, Wawrow Local Attractions: unspoilt countryside, quaint old village street Useful Links: Polish Ancestry Research and Guided Tours
