Knights of St John
The once imposing residence and castle palace built by the Knights of St John in Slonsk (formerly Sonnenburg, Brandenburg, Prussia), Lubuskie, Poland. The building survived the Second World War intact, and after pressure from the Poles who had moved into the area in 1945 to demolish it, it was eventually turned into a grain store. The building then mysteriously caught fire and is now in ruins. The nearby church associated with the Knights of St John has recently been restored with the financial aid of the modern-day German-based successors to the Knights of St John.
